Canine Parvovirus is a deadly disease…
What is parvovirus?
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus mainly affecting dogs and is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces.
Vaccines can prevent this infection, but mortality can reach 91% in untreated cases.
Treatment often involves veterinary hospitalization but most of the time is deadly.
Some of the signs of parvovirus include lethargy; loss of appetite; abdominal pain and bloating; fever or low body temperature (hypothermia); vomiting; and severe, often bloody, diarrhea. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration, and damage to the intestines and immune system can cause septic shock.
DO’S and DONT’S to keep your puppy safe at home:
Do NOT expose your puppy to other dogs except a home pet until fully vaccinated, as known as 3 sets of Vaccines, but please consult with your veterinarian first.
When we deliver the puppy to you, it would be 2 months old, arriving to you with only 1 set of vaccines so he must potty train inside the house until fully vaccinated to prevent deadly parvovirus disease.
Imagine your puppy like a newborn child: you would not expose your newborn child to strangers in the first few weeks of his life and would use diapers on your little gem... well the puppy should be treated the same for the first 3 sets of vaccines 💉 💕 🐶
Book his next vet appointment: The second set of vaccines happens at 3 months of age and one more at 4 months old. Your vet would tell you when your puppy is ready to hit the streets.
The puppy is an infant should NOT leave the house. It can go visit grandmas home but must always remain inside the house.
Do not take the puppy to grass or public parks until fully vaccinated!
SO HOW DO WE POTTY TRAIN AT HOME???
Glad that you asked! at Austin Goldendoodles we take pride in raising our babies with so much care, attention and love. Since they are 3 weeks old, our puppies learn how to use the potty in a litter box filled with paper pellets, just like cats!
